Churches come in all shapes and sizes. There are big churches and small churches; traditional churches and progressive churches; noisy churches and quiet churches; churches that aim to make as big a splash as possible and churches that just quietly do their thing. But what makes a church a church?
– Is it having a regular meeting place, be it an owned building, rented premises, or even someone’s home?
– Is it having a sign and/or a cross displayed out front?
– Is it the regular meeting together of a group of people for the purpose of worship?
– Is it having some form of liturgy, whether traditional/formal or much less structured?
– Is it anything at all to do with having a vision and values?
Just what is it that makes a church a church? This is not a trick question; I’d love it if you could leave a comment with your thoughts. I’m thinking I could quote some of your ideas in a future post.
