ThinkingIt’s been a long week, and I don’t feel very inspired this evening. But daily posting has become a habit that’s hard to break, so I’ll just offer a few random thoughts that have been on my mind over the past few days.

1. I’m completely done with trying to reconcile the “monster God” found in some biblical depictions with the Abba of Jesus. Which means I’m done with any notion of biblical inerrancy or infallibility. If there was any lingering doubt in my mind, it’s gone. And I feel much better for it.

2. Many people appear to trust the Bible more than they trust Jesus.

3. If you want to get a glimpse of a person’s genuine character, poke a stick at one of their strongly held beliefs. (Don’t forget to retreat to a safe distance.)

4. Reading some people’s comments on Facebook is a tortuous exercise. If their thinking is as jumbled as their written communication, I feel sorry for their brains.

5. What we call faith is actually very often a striving to cling to some kind of dogmatic certainty. In other words, it’s yet another way of trying to control our world. Yet he who loses his life for Jesus’ sake shall find it…

6. God doesn’t want our brains or our hearts – he wants both.

7. A book recently came out called Jesus is Better Than You Imagined. I feel like I’ve only recently begun to discover just how true that statement is.

Have a nice weekend, people.
