What many people think God is like:
– Remote and disinterested
– Angry and capricious
– All-controlling, like a divine puppet-master
– Uncaring and impassive
– Unbending and authoritarian
What the God I know is like:
– Closer than a brother and seeking intimate relationship with His children
– Endlessly patient, tolerant and forgiving
– Self-sacrificing and freedom-loving
– Tender-hearted and compassionate
– Kind and abounding in mercy and grace
I wonder how we’ve managed to do such a bad job of showing people what God is really like.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
